<p>Here are a few tips about yoga exercises and on how they have become effective in helping people lose weight.</p>
<p>(a) Yoga exercises must be done systematically</p>
<p>In order to lose weight effectively and to avoid possible health problems, each yoga exercise must be described and performed in different levels of increasing difficulty.</p>
<p>You are not expected to achieve the most advanced level on the first day, or even in the first weeks or months. Continue doing one intermediate step of yoga exercise each day until you can move comfortably on the next.</p>
<p>(b) Yoga exercise can be done to good advantage more than five times a week</p>
<p>It can even be done as often as three times a day if time permits. The yoga exercise drains very little of your energy reserves. You will be working toward the day when you can hold the final position of each exercise for one minute.</p>
<p>The more frequently you do yoga exercise, the more rapidly you will progress, although three times a week is sufficient for gradual improvement in losing weight.</p>
<p>(c) Yoga exercise must be performed easily and gently</p>
<p>It must be done without jerking, bouncing, or sudden movements. Do not hold your breath at any time. </p>
<p>When the yoga exercises are performed easily and in the proper manner, they provide an ideal cooling down activity starting from the more vigorous parts of the fitness program. They will leave you invigorated but relaxed.</p>
<p>In summary, yoga exercises can help you lose weight and stay in shape without creating sore muscles and damaged tissues. They have been designed to help people lose weight even for those who can no longer exert effort in a strenuous exercise program.</p>

Two generations ago people ate more non-organic foods, smoked and drank more and yet they were far healthier than most of us. </p>
<p>According to some studies that were conducted recently, it was found that 60% of Americans are not doing the minimum daily exercise needed. Furthermore, the study discovered that out of this population, over 25% were such that their physical movements were almost negligible. <br />
However, since our lifestyles have grown to be such that our paychecks come from sitting in an office chair all day, most people need some sort of alternative that does not ask them to spend 9 hours a week in the gym. </p>
<p>This is the reason for the recent popularity of Pilates exercises. These exercises are simple so that anyone, in any physical condition, and of any age can perform them without the need of fancy equipment or lots of spare time. </p>
<p>Just as you would wear different apparel when going to weight training or an aerobics class, you should also pay attention to what you wear during Pilates exercises. </p>
<p>Make sure that whatever you wear is comfortable even if it is not fashionable. Pilates exercises can ask you to twist and contort your body into some awkward positions initially and the last you want is to be discomfited by your clothes. </p>
<p>Wear clothes that hug your body. As with all exercises, the clothes you wear during a pilates workout should permit easy breathing and movement and should not be susceptible to flapping around. Also make certain that the clothes do not weigh too much. Some track pants material can be downright heavy. The lighter your Pilates exercise costume the better it will be for you. <br />
Pilates involves a lot of stretching and bending. At times like these and during certain postures, the obvious clothing items like extra buttons, zippers, beads can become a pain when they intrude between folding muscle layers so avoid those and wear plain clothing. </p>

<p>1. Aerobic exercise</p>
<p>Performing aerobic exercises should be done daily for at least 30 minutes or as long as 60 minutes. It is best to perform cardio work or any aerobic exercise first thing in the morning, as the body will consume stored fat. </p>
<p>If possible, do aerobic exercises during the evening before or even after dinner (around 2-3 hours after the meal). However, try not doing the same routine everyday, as you might eventually get bored or risk some parts of your body to injury due to continued stress. </p>
<p>There are many types of aerobic exercise. Here are some of the most popular.</p>
<p>running, cycling/biking, swimming, cross-country skiing, basketball, jumping rope, roller skating, brisk walking, dancing.</p>
<p>In addition, aerobic exercise can be performed with machines such as treadmills, stair-steppers, cycles and rowing machines.</p>
<p>2. Resistance training</p>
<p>Resistance training is a form of exercise that boosts metabolism and will work wonders if done with cardio work. </p>
<p>Through resistance training, the body becomes a calorie-burning machine, while in cardio work the body burns calories only during the duration of the workout. </p>
<p>Lifting weights for an hour will help the body burn calories for the entire day. Studies have shown that women that engaged in resistance training for 15 weeks boosted the rate of their metabolism by 15% of 1% per week.</p>
<p>All in all, being active by exercising is an effective way to increase metabolism and eventually lose weight. Choose a workout that can be done on a regular basis and more importantly fun to do.</p>

Being lucky enough to live in Florida, in a house with an in-ground pool, I now exercise in the water. The benefit of doing this is increased resistance with little to no stress on the body&#8217;s delicate joints.</p>
<p> In 1990, I was in a car accident that left me permanently disabled. I have five herniated discs- three in my lower back, and two in my neck. This year, I have been working on losing weight and becoming more physically fit. As a young woman in my twenties, before the accident, when I worked out vigorously, I could eat anything I wanted, and still fit into my size five jeans. When I didn&#8217;t exercise, I was fat. So this year, I got the idea of doing the exercises I did in PE class in the pool. This is how I am starting out with my program. It will get more complicated as I progress.</p>
<p> People with severe arthritis may benefit by exercising in warm water. Your body weight is supported and the resistance of moving through water boosts muscle strength and endurance. Activities such as stretching or walking through water can exercise the joints without putting them under strain. <br />
Locations that may run warm water exercise classes include recreation centers, fitness centers, public swimming pools and retirement villages. See your doctor before embarking on any new fitness program.</p>
<p>The benefits of warm water exercise:<br /> A study published in the American College of Sports Medicine&#8217;s journal, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, found that water exercise improved the health of elderly participants. In the study, women between the ages of 60 and 75 years were divided into two groups: one group participated in water exercise for 12 weeks, while the other didn&#8217;t. The health benefits for those who exercised in water included:<br />
* Increased muscle strength * Improved oxygen intake * Greater flexibility * Loss of excess body fat * Increased agility * No exercise-related injuries.</p>
<p> Before you join a class:<br />
* Always check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program. For example, you may need to avoid certain movements if you have had joint replacement surgery. * Contact the various fitness and recreation centers in your local area to find out what sorts of water classes are offered. * Think carefully about the location. Public swimming pools, for example, generally have cooler water temperatures, which means you could feel cold while exercising. * Assess the location. For example, is the pool easy to access? Is there a locker room? Is it accessible and comfortable? * Before choosing a class, make sure it is appropriate to your level of fitness and ability. You may like to watch a class or two from the sidelines before you commit to joining.</p>

<p class="articletext">The way I see it with the workout that my stomach muscles get from me trying to suck them in, I shouldn&#8217;t have anything to suck in in the first place! Okay so vanity isn&#8217;t considered a workout to some but a pot belly has haunted me my whole life. I am convinced that the concave or convex curvature of your midsection is determined at birth and nothing can change thatâ€¦for me anyway. Whether I was at my heaviest or leanest I still had that little pooch, albeit less noticeable at times, but nonetheless always there.</p>
<p>The muscles that make up our core arguably go from our neck to our pelvis and are the most important muscle group in our bodies as all other muscles rely on them. Any movement you make is dependant on the 29 to 50 muscles in your midsection whether you are an Olympic athlete or just picking up a bag of groceries. The muscles wrap around our spine and act as a stabilizer of sorts to promote movements with our arms and legs. Even those with six pack abs, while looking great, may not have core strength as there is more to it than just a flat stomach. It is important to work all of those muscles in order to utilize them when you need to. </p>
<p>Your body type can make a difference in the workout you need for core strength as well. Someone with wider hips will have different needs than someone who is more flexible in the spine. It&#8217;s important too to make sure you exercise and build all the muscle groups rather than just concentrating on the core group to ward off soreness and imbalance as well as upsetting your posture or worse yet, injuring your spine. Remember that these muscles wrap around your body and protect your backbone with all of the body&#8217;s nerve wiring going through that exchange.</p>
<p>If you want to start building your core strength (do as I say, not as I do) it is always good to run it past your doctor who may in turn refer you to a physical therapist. Even a great personal trainer is only as good as the information you are able to give him so offer him everything you can. </p>
<p>When starting an exercise program for your core muscles a good way to engage the proper muscles is to cough. This way you know which muscles you need to be working. Think of two dots in a vertical line on your midsection &#8216; one above your navel and one below. Try to pull those two dots together. A good place to start is by using exercises like the Bridge, the Plank or correctly done abdominal crunches. You can get fancier as you go along but be sure to pace yourself to make sure you don&#8217;t get hurt. One thing to keep in mind if you are over 55 is that as we age stenosis develops in our spines where the spaces between the vertebrae become smaller. When we do back strengthening exercises that involve pushing backward and forward it can be more harmful than good.</p>
<p>Poor form in core exercises may have long lasting effects on our lower backs that we don&#8217;t even see for years down the road. If improper form won&#8217;t yield the results we are looking for why do the exercises at all, right? So when it comes to getting an exercise program for your core muscles go big or go home. In other words, check with your doctor first and then get professional help through a physical therapist and/or a personal trainer for the best and safest results. With a little help maybe I&#8217;ll be able to tuck my shirt in someday without feeling self consciousâ€¦or at least you will be able to!</p>

The jumping rope has been one of children&#8217;s favorite play things for centuries. It has been a good tool for all those eager to do some hard physical exercises. But a jumping rope is much more than that. It is an excellent tool for doing aerobic exercises irrespective of how much time and money they have to spare or even space they may have.</p>
<p>Jumping is considered to one of the most vigorous aerobic exercises. It fortifies your heart and lungs, increases bone density, which in turn diminish the chances of developing osteoporosis. The simple jumping rope helps you build stamina, speed along with enhancing overall sense of coordination, rhythm and accuracy. Over and above this exercise adds a lot of fun. The best thing about jumping rope is that despite all the magnificent benefits it has, the item is so cheap. You can buy a decent jumping rope with only five dollars. Convenient to carry, this makes it a good tool for exercise for frequent travelers.</p>

<p>While there has not been much alterations in the basic design of the jumping rope, modern day technology has given it a lot variations. For instance, today jumping ropes are available which are made of nylon cord or plastic beads which has a direct effect on the speed, durability and weight of the jumping rope. The handles of the jumping rope have also undergone improvement. Today these are made of wood, plastic or rubber foam and shaped in such a way to give your hands a comfortable and better grip. Some jumping ropes have attached heart-rate monitors, so that you know exactly how you are faring in the exercise regimen. Needless to mention, these features alter the price as well. So it is better to judge for yourself, which features you are actually going to use, before buying the rope.</p>
<p>It is always wise to keep some safety guidelines in mind before you start to jump. Make sure there is enough space for the rope to swing back and forth, without hitting anyone, or the ceiling, or worse still, the ceiling fan.
